(Chicago, January 3, 2016) – Today, Congressman Danny Davis (7th District) officially announced his full support and endorsement of incumbent Dorothy Brown’s reelection as the Clerk of the Circuit Court Cook County, ahead of the March 15th Democratic primary. Alderman Jason C. Ervin (28th Ward) added his endorsement of Clerk Brown at the press conference.

Emphasizing that Dorothy Brown is “the best clerk the court has ever seen,” Davis urged everyone to return Clerk Brown to the elected office she has successfully held for four consecutive terms.

Davis referred to the unprecedented advancements in office technology and improved public services made in the Court Clerk’s Office under Clerk Brown’s leadership.

Clerk Brown implemented Electronic Filing; built the innovative Clerk of Court mobile app that places court case information conveniently on user’s mobile devices; managed the full-scale scanning and electronic storing of almost 200 million digital images of court documents; and installed interactive Digital Access Terminals throughout the Clerk’s Office for public use to view and/or print imaged court documents. Clerk Brown also initiated several online services that make Clerk’s Office services more accessible for citizens, such as: an Online Traffic Ticket Payment Service, an Unclaimed Child Support Search, an Online Orders of Protection Service, and the Mortgage Foreclosure Surplus Search program that helps qualifying people learn about and recover cash surpluses from property lost to foreclosure.

Additionally emphasizing Clerk Brown’s progressive Second Chance Expungement Summits, which she created and has presented for 11 consecutive years in Cook County, Davis said, “I am appreciative of the creative way in which she has used her office to help deal with issues of mass incarceration.” Clerk Brown’s Expungement Summits are nationally recognized for the life-changing services provided to citizens and the positive impact made on communities. In response to requests by counties throughout the nation seeking advice on producing similar “second chance” events, Clerk Brown produced the “Expungement Summit Guide,” an instruction booklet for other jurisdictions.

Clerk Brown is also leading efforts to improve and innovate the Cook County criminal justice system through her work as Chairman of the Cook County Integrated Criminal Justice Information System (CCICJIS) Committee. Her office’s technology team is currently working with the Office of the Chief Judge on the Interactive Orders System (IOS) that will replace handwritten court sheets with electronically produced court orders in criminal courtrooms in Cook County.

“I want to urge everybody else to vote for Dorothy Brown to be returned as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County,” Cong. Davis stated.

Alderman Ervin said, “I know Clerk Brown to be a public servant who is foremost interested in empowering communities and increasing access to justice for all citizens. Her record of improvements to the Clerk’s Office is unmatched. I proudly endorse Dorothy Brown’s re-election.”

“I am honored to receive these endorsements from Congressman Davis and Ald. Ervin. As visionaries and community-minded elected officials, they understand the experience and dedication needed to maintain and run a successful Court Clerk’s Office,” Clerk Brown said.

“Professionalism over Politics,” is Dorothy Brown’s motto for running the Clerk’s Office. In her run for re-election in the March 15th Primary, Clerk Brown proudly states that she remains both “Unbought and Unbossed.”
